Hepatic encephalopathy is a severe complication of liver cirrhosis and is an important therapeutic challenge, with a social and economic issue. The hepatic encephalopathy HE is a common complication of the liver cirrhosis, involving a high mortality. The knowledge of precipitating factors may contribute to improve the quality of cares and the prognosis of patients. The aim of the study was to determine the precipitating factors, the clinical profile and treatment outcomes of HE.
Descriptive and prospective multicenter study carried out among patients with HE hospitalized in Kamenge University hospital or in Kamenge military hospital between October and June According to the West Haven Criteria, 8 patients were grade 1; 15 patients grade 2; 12 patients grade 3 and one patient grade 4.
The treatment was mainly based on the lactulose. The hepatocellular carcinoma was the factor of poor prognosis. The HE is a severe complication involving a high mortality.
